Heading into the 125-lap ASA Late Model Series Southern division race at Hickory Motor Speedway (NC), Jimmy Lang knew he had to keep his #86 Performance Concepts Chevy out of the chaos that can occur during the races to obtain a decent finish. Unfortunately, Lang was one of many victims early on as a lap four wreck caused damage that kept him from a solid finish.
“In qualifying we picked up two-tenths,” said Lang. “That is the fastest we have been here. We were thinking it was going to be good, but in the race it kept going away. I thought something was going on with the left front tire like air was coming out of it, but it was the A arm falling off it. The shims fell out of the left upper A arm. That probably happened because of the first accident we were in.
“I have never had anything like that happen before. It just wasn’t our day.”
To compound his issues, series officials decided to park Lang after a lap 93 incident he was involved in. It was unclear as to why since Lang was the victim throughout the day, not the aggressor.
“That was weird,” said Lang. “How many series have a three altercations and you are done? There was one car that got in four altercations and he finished the race. We just wish we could have finished the race.”
The decision by officials cost Lang and the team track time as well as a potential seven positions in the finishing order; however Lang is moving on and ready for the next event at Birmingham International Raceway.
“We are going to Birmingham next and hope to rebound there with a solid finish.”
Jimmy Lang’s next race is on Saturday, October 27th at Birmingham International Raceway (AL) for the season finale points event for the ASA Late Model Series South.
