Jimmy Lang Earns a Good Finish the Right Way at Nashville
Jimmy Lang was a young driver who did exactly what he was supposed to do during the ASA Late Model portion of the All American 400 weekend at Nashville’s Music City Motorplex. He never set a wheel wrong or a fender astray during 200 laps of racing. He didn’t beat or bang any of his fellow competitors and for that he was rewarded with a fine sixth-place finish against some tough competition.
“We are normally pretty decent in the Southern Division races, but there were 55 cars here,” said Lang. “We qualified 11th and finished sixth, so I’m really, really proud of what we did here. I was the highest Southern Division finisher as well, I think, so that’s pretty special, too.”
It was Lang’s second-best finish of the season and it came at a track that he had never raced on before.
“It’s my first time here. We came here and tested a while back and we were pretty quick then. I just love this track. It reminds me of I-70 in Missouri. It’s real long and fast. It’s not quite as banked as I-70, but they’re close. We ran well at I-70, too. Performance Concepts just came in and really hooked us up here.
“We knew we were going to be good, but I have to give a big, big thanks to Performance Concepts and Johnny Brown, Clay Turner and Anthony Parker for all their work in the shop all day everyday. I’m right there with them, but they really bust their behind in the shop. Performance Concepts helped us out for this race and they really got us going here. We were pretty good in practice, but then in qualifying we ran a 19.0, so we thought we were going to be pretty good.
Everyone did really good this time. I’m very happy with the way we ran here tonight.”
Lang used his head to pace himself through the race. He was very consistent throughout the event.
“We were really fast the first 20 laps on new tires. Then it kind of fell off, but not very much. We were still pretty good those last 80 laps on the run. Then on the halfway break, we put new tires on and we were real quick. I think we probably had a top-three car here tonight.

“I’m really, really excited. My mom’s been calling me non-stop checking in on us. She wasn’t able to come here this weekend, but she said she was checking in on us on the Internet and everything.”
The Nashville race puts a close on Lang’s 2007 racing season, and he is already looking forward to a 2008 filled with potential.
“We did decent this year in ASA. I think we could’ve done even better, but our first year there was a big learning curve. Next year, we’re going to have something for them. To end this year with a good run in Nashville is great, and hopefully we’ll have a big year next year.”
