After last week’s doubleheader weekend, Jimmy Lang made his way to the I-70 Speedway for the ASA Late Model Series “North VS South Shootout / World Cup 200” in Odessa, Missouri looking for success. Lang showed early on in the 200-lap event that he was a man on a mission, but a wreck in the second half of the race damaged his car, ending his chance at a top-five finish.
Lang’s day started off on a good note as his car was fast from the start of the day.
“We were pretty good and fast in practice,” said Lang. “One session we were fourth quickest out of 25 cars.”
While his car didn’t show speed during qualifying, Lang put his foot to the floor during the first half of the race, running up through the pack. Unfortunately, the second half didn’t go quite as planned.
“We started way in the back and by the end of the first 100 laps, we were ninth,” said Lang. “We came in during the break and changed tires and filled it up with fuel. We had a car to beat. We could have finished in the top three easily.
“On lap 108 someone wrecked in front of me. My spotter told me to slow down and we all got slowed down except one person who was wide open and slammed me. It messed up the car and we couldn’t finish the race.”
Lang now turns his attention to the October 10th race at Desoto Super Speedway in Braden (FL), a track he is familiar with in another type of racing vehicle.
“About four years ago we had a big Legends event down there and I won two of the four races, so I have a pretty good feeling about racing again at Desoto.”
