Jimmy Lang Hoping for Blue Collar Victory in Birmingham
Birmingham, Alabama, with all of its manufacturing outfits and steel mills, is a blue-collar working town. Hard work is what the city is founded upon, and to this day Birmingham is one of the most bustling cities in the South.
A hard-working town like Birmingham figures to be the perfect place for young Jimmy Lang to break into ASA Late Models victory lane. Like the people of Birmingham, Lang and the crew of the Jimmy Lang Racing #86 are a blue-collar workers who bust their humps day in and day out. The Langs, however, are hoping all their hard work will pay off in Birmingham when the ASA Late Models South Division visits Birmingham International Raceway on Saturday, July 14th.
“I’ve never been there, but I’ve heard it’s a pretty big track with a lot of history,” said Lang. “It’s got long straightaways and tight corners, but it should be a track that we could be really good at. We get three hours of practice on Saturday to get it dialed in, so with some hard work, we should end up with a good car by the time we race.”
The 3/8-mile track is sure to be a tricky one for Lang, but with some experience at a similarly rough and worn-out facility earlier in the year, Lang is ready for the challenge. “We raced in Pensacola earlier this year and that track is really worn out just like I hear Birmingham is.
I wasn’t really looking forward to Pensacola because it was so rough, but we ended up running up front. Birmingham should be the same. There’s nothing we can do about the rough track, we’ll just have to go out there and do the best we can and hope that we run up front again.
“We just need to run up front and the luck will be there for us. If we’re running up front, things will happen for us. Everyone’s been racing clean in this ASA South Series, but every once and a while you get someone that’s out of control. As long as we can avoid those guys, we should be alright.
