Jimmy Lang Scores Hatrick in ASA Late Model Competition

As Jimmy Lang sits at the door to his shop in South Carolina he can see the remains of old Hardeeville Speedway.  It makes him think back to his early Late Model days at the D-shaped oval when he won eight races in a row.  Those days are long gone, but the win-streaks for Lang are not.  The 19-year-old just wrapped up his third straight ASA Late Model South.  The latest triumph came during a 100-lap race Saturday at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Ga.

“It’s awesome,” said Lang.  “I would have never thought that we would have started out a year like this.    It’s a great jump on the points and three in a row, well, I haven’t won three in a row since I ran my home track in Hardeeville, South Carolina.”

From outside of the third row, Lang used the initial start to get in front of his biggest challenger, Beau Slocumb and then he marched to the front.  Within only a few laps, Lang took his number-86 Chevy Monte Carlo to the top spot.

“We drew sixth and that was good for us because we drew sixth at Bronson and won, and we did the same at Senoia and won, so that’s been our lucky starting spot.  We came through the field pretty fast and we took the lead before lap 20 and it was clear sailing from there; we just had a fast car.”

The victory marks his third career ASA Late Model win.  It also makes him the only driver to ever win three-in-a-row in the ASA Late Model Series (excluding the Challenge Series).  

“The car was good the whole race; it was like it had new tires on it all night,” added Lang.  “It just handled awesome lap after lap.  We showed up Friday and we were fast right off the truck.  It just amazing how well we have done this season.”  

With the victory, Lang increases his early lead in the quest for the series title.  Lang will have a few weeks off before he looks to make it four wins in four starts in the South Division when the tour heads to New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach in Florida on Saturday, June 14th.

Before that, Lang will be back in action this weekend at Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA for the ASA Late Model Challenge Series event.  

“That will be the biggest track I have ever raced on, it’s almost a mile. We know it’s going to be fast and with more competitive cars so we are looking forward to the challenge.”
