As much as Jimmy Lang has been successful in the ASA Late Model South Series, he struggled just as much in the ASA Late Model Challenge Series. He’s won three straight ASA South races, but “The Battle at Berlin” certainly took its tolls on the youngster. Lang started eighth and battled through a broken locker in the rear-end to finish 19th in the “Tradition 200” at Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI.
“This is very depressing because the guys work so hard at the shop,” said Lang. “The car would get so tight. We were tightening it up because it was loose at first and every now and then, the car would just go crazy tight for no reason. It would push straight to the top of the track. I couldn’t turn it. With the way the locker was, it was just one of those things where you have to finish the race and drive the car as fast as it will go like it is without backing into the wall.”
Although the scoreboard wouldn’t necessarily suggest it, Lang enjoyed running at Berlin. He believed that they might have had a decent finish if the car did not have the rear-end problems.
“I love the track. It is a driver’s track,” added Lang. “You have to know how to wheel a car. You have to know how to be easy on the throttle and all that kind of stuff.”
Lang will return to the ASA LM South Series this Saturday, June 21st where he will look to make it four straight victories. His next ASA Challenge start will come on Saturday, June 28th at Mansfield Motorsports Park in Ohio.
