Jimmy Lang's weekend at The Milwaukee Mile was anything but dull. The driver entered two of the three feature events of the weekend keeping him on the track from Friday until Sunday.
Lang's weekend in the Badger State started off pretty good as he seemed to be one of the fastest cars in the ASA Late Model Northern division event right off the truck.
“On the first day, we were fourth and sixth fastest with the North car,” says Lang, “We didn't even take out the Challenge car, but we were up there right away.”
Lang's car seemed to get away from him a little as he qualified 19th for the Governor's Cup 100, but he rallied for an 11th place finish in the feature.
“We were good and then we qualified 19th and that just stinks,” says Lang, “These guys work so hard. We got an 11th place finish and I guess that's ok, but we have to
do a lot better than that if we want to do anything with the championship.”
Qualifying for the ASA Challenge Series was delayed from Saturday until Sunday prior to their 150-lap feature. Lang qualified his #86 Lang's Heating and Air car 20th and due to some handling problems wasn't able to move up much more in the race and finished 21st.
“The car was just so loose and then it would be so tight, it was ridiculous,” says Lang, “I don't even know what to say, I was just so mad out here.”
Some of Lang's struggles may have been due to the fact that he just hasn't seen much time on flatter racetracks.
“I've only raced like two flat tracks in my whole life,” says Lang, “We don't race too many flat tacks, but I guess you have to learn them all.”
Lang now enjoys a weekend off before heading to Gateway International Raceway September 6th with the ASA Challenge Series.
“We have a couple torn up racecars,” says Lang, “So we're just going to chill out next weekend and take a break. We don't get many weekends off.”
Lang must wait until September 13th at South Georgia Motorsports Park to work on protecting his point lead in the ASA Late Model Southern division.
