Jimmy Lang Now Four of Five in ASA Late Model South
Jimmy Lang is out to prove something in the ASA Late Model ranks.  After a year of learning the ropes, Lang has fired back in 2008 with not one…not two…but four wins in five starts in the South division.  His latest triumph came in the Renegade 125 at Orange County Speedway (NC) on Saturday night.  Lang rocketed from his seventh starting spot to take the lead with less then fifty laps to go.  He then held off fellow competitor David Odell to score the win.

“It’s awesome to get win number four,” said Lang. “Last year I got to the point were I was frustrated with our results.  We ran so many races and things just didn’t work out.  Then we got hooked up with Performance Concepts and they helped us out a lot.  This means a lot to us to pull out our fourth win tonight.”

The pass for the win turned out to be of those classic short-track battles.  When Lang got to second, he quickly started his run at the lead.  He got underneath leader Colt James as the two made contact. The two young racers slapped fenders and traded wheel marks resulting in a yellow flag for parts flying off both cars.  Despite the damage, both continued on.
“Colt (James) didn’t give me room,” explained Lang. “I was underneath him and I was up to his door.  I was up to his number and he gave me no room what so ever.  He pushed me down and we were very low on the track.  I am not going to back out and give it too him; I stayed right there with him. We almost wrecked twice. I didn’t want to race like that; I would have gotten around him clean if I could have.”

On the restart Lang made the pass for the top spot look as easy, sealing the win, which marked his fourth trip to victory lane this season.

“It looked like the last lap of a Bristol race; it was fun,” said Lang.  “We started seventh and at the beginning of the race I didn’t know for sure if I had the car to win or not.  I was going to give it my all. Later on in the race it started coming to me more and more.  When went back green after the long run the car was just on.”

Lang is now only one win behind the series record, which is five.  He will look to do something he has never done next week as he hopes to score his first ASA Late Model Challenge victory at Bristol Motor Speedway (TN).
“I love those big banked, fast half-mile tracks,” said Lang.  “I am going to do all I can do. Hopefully we can come out with a win.  That would be awesome.  I have always wanted to run Bristol when we ran Pro Cup, but the budget didn’t allow it. We’re ready for next week.”
